The wisecracking foursome of Bad Company will return in future Battlefield games, Polygon reports. DICE creative director Lars Gustavsson said that the games are a welcome respite from the serious military action of the mainline battlefield series.
“My feeling is that I would love to do it. For me, when we started the company with 1942, it was really a work of passion,” Gustavsson said. “And then we worked our way through the era of different wars, and I loved them all, like my little babies. When it came to Bad Company, it was creative freedom; don’t take yourself too seriously.”
That said, it will be a while before DICE has the time to take on the project. The studio is currently pushing Battlefield 4 out the door, with a beta live now and months of DLC to create after launch, and Mirror’s Edge 2 and the new Star Wars: Battlefront will take its full attention after that.
Battlefield: Bad Company brought DICE’s shooter series to consoles in 2008, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 kept the humor but reinvigorated its multiplayer in 2010. Just think of this as a nice break while Sarge gets that hypertension looked at.
“But trust me, the Bad Company [team] isn’t forgotten, they are just on a very long vacation,” Gustavsson said. “So they are out there, they’re coming back.”
