Minecraft selling 17,000 copies per day on XBLA as Mojang profits double

According to Mojang CEO Carl Manneh, the company is having an amazing year in 2012 as Minecraft proliferates to many different platforms.

MCV Nordic (opens in new tab) reports that Mojang took in around $8.9 million in profits in 2011, and now that number is poised to hit nearly $18 million in 2012. Minecraft is still the fledgling company’s only moneymaker, however it rakes in the cash fast enough that they don’t really need anything else in the short term.

The XBLA version of Minecraft alone has sold more than three million copies (opens in new tab), and continues to sell at about 17,000 copies per day. That’s far from the only version though. It’s also still a popular hit on PC (opens in new tab), and it’s the number four top selling game on Android phones and the number 6 best selling game on iOS.

Mojang is currently working on Notch’s next title, a card-based RPG called Scrolls (opens in new tab), and dipping their toes into publishing as well with the small developer behind Cobalt (opens in new tab).
