Hollywood could learn some lessons from Danish filmmaker Tobias Lindholm, co-writer of recent award-winning drama The Hunt .
This story of a Scandinavian cargo ship taken over by Somali pirates may sound a bit like Under Siege without the action, but it’s actually a ruthlessly plausible thriller, stripped clean of music and melodrama, and all the more engrossing for it.
Johan Philip Asbaek (TV’s Borgen ) is the cook struggling to survive the ordeal on board; Søren Malling (also Borgen ) the chillingly detached company boss haggling over the ransom.
As tensions escalate and conditions deteriorate, Lindholm’s control is so rigorous that it’s easy to forget you’re watching fiction.
