Elizabeth Olsen recently joined the cast for Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla reboot, and the star dropped a brief hint as to what we can expect from the film while on the red carpet at last night’s Bafta ceremony.
The EE Rising Star nominee didn’t give much away in terms of specific plot details, but she did reveal that the tone of the film will be markedly different from the giant lizard’s last outing.
“It’s definitely not light-hearted,” Olsen said of Edwards’ approach to the well-worn story. “It’s kind of going back to its roots of the original Japanese film.”
Indeed, Godzilla was initially devised as a metaphor for the impending threat of nuclear war, with the original film adopting a decidedly grim tone that wasn’t quite so evident when Mothra and co. came to town.
Scripted by Frank Darabont and co-starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Bryan Cranston, Godzilla will open in the UK on 16 May 2014.
