Disney is turning to another back catalogue classic for inspiration, as THR reports the studio has started development on a Fantasia-inspired live-action movie. The 1940 classic consists of eight separate animated sequences, all of which are accompanied by specially-composed music. Night on Bald Mountain will be based on the eponymous section which revolves around a winged creature – Chernabog – who raises various spirits and beings from the dead. After a night of devilish cavorting, everyone returns to their respective worlds.
The studio has tapped Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who together wrote Dracula Untold, to pen the script and executive produce the movie. Plans are for Bald Mountain to adopt the tone and content of last year’s Maleficent. Starring Angelina Jolie, the new spin on Sleeping Beauty captured audiences’ imaginations and scored $758 million at the box office.
This project is the latest in a long line of Disney’s self-made remakes. Following the success of Alice In Wonderland, Maleficent and this year’s Cinderella, the Mouse House has Beauty and the Beast, Alice Through The Looking Glass, The Jungle Book, Mulan and Tinkerbell live-action movies all in the pipeline.
