We’ve heard it from Deadpool (opens in new tab). We’ve heard it from Ryan Reynolds (opens in new tab). But now it’s official – Deadpool (opens in new tab) will be rated R.
The news comes to us via Box Office Mojo (opens in new tab), who report that Deadpool has been classified with the rating due to its “strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity”. The violence and language are to be expected, but sexual content is not something you typically see in a comic book movie.
The rating is further confirmation – if it wasn’t already clear – that this version of Deadpool will be sticking as close to its comic book roots as possible. A foul mouth and a ton of blood is par for the course when it comes to the character, so it’s good to know that the film won’t shy away from that. It does make it intriguing to see how the Merc will fare when he inevitably crosses over with Fox’s X-Men universe, which is PG-13…
Directed by Tim Miller and starring Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller and Gina Carano, Deadpool will open in UK cinemas on February 4, 2016 before arriving in US theatres on February 12, 2016. Check out the latest trailer below…
