All the Borderlands games are about to be backwards compatible on Xbox One

If you got Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (opens in new tab) on Xbox One, you might have noticed its one glaring omission. Gearbox justified leaving the original Borderlands out because it didn’t have an appearance from Handsome Jack (who is a central character in Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel), but narcissistic nemeses aside, you can now play the whole series on your current-gen console…

…if you’re a member of the Xbox One Preview Program. If not, you’ll have to wait for the Xbox One backwards compatibility update (opens in new tab) to roll out to the general public in November. At least Microsoft has confirmed that Borderlands will be among the first wave of Xbox 360 games to become backwards compatible, along with Gears of War, Mass Effect, and more than a hundred others.

If you already played Borderlands on Xbox 360, your saves, achievements, and DLC should transfer over so you can pick up right where you left off. Get comfortable, because even though Gearbox is already gearing up for the next Borderlands (opens in new tab), it looks like it’s going to be a while before it comes out.
