Xbox boss says Scalebound cancellation is “better for Xbox gamers”

Xbox boss Phil Spencer took to Twitter yesterday in wake of Scalebound’s cancellation (opens in new tab), offering some words of encouragement to Xbox fans disappointed by the news. Spencer told The Inner Circle podcast it was a “difficult decision,” adding “we believe result is better [for] Xbox gamers, still disappointing.”

It’s curious phrasing to say that one less game to play is better for Xbox gamers, since one would think that even a mediocre exclusive could still draw potential sales. Likely, Spencer means that by not having to sink more money into Platinum’s project, Xbox and Microsoft can better fund other games; a focus on quality over quantity.

At least, that’s how I’m choosing to look at it. To think that Scalebound was cancelled for less compelling reasons is just too sad to think about – there aren’t enough games in the world that let you control a dragon.

What about you? Do you think Scalebound getting cancelled is a good thing?
