Viola Davis is the latest big name to be added to Suicide Squad’s distinctly A-list cast, with the Oscar-nominated actress recently signing on to play Amanda Waller.
Waller is the government agent charged with keeping a handle on the titular group of supervillains-turned-operatives, and according to Davis, she is a force to be reckoned with…
“I’m fascinated by her,” explains the star to Nerd Report (opens in new tab). “I’m fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction.”
“She’s this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I’m fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I’m excited to pick up a gun.”
Davis will join Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevinge, as part of an ensemble to rival even the Avengers for pure star power.
Directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad will open in the US and UK on 5 August 2016.
