Star Wars 9’s director talks ending the trilogy and getting “the most satisfying and emotionally resonant conclusion”

It feels like only yesterday that we were treated to the grand reveal of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (opens in new tab) and, now, eyes are starting to peer towards the end of the third Star Wars trilogy. Colin Trevorrow – director of Star Wars 9 – has had his say on the process behind saying goodbye to the new generation of Star Wars movies.

Trevorrow is in the midst of formulating the ending, detailing to Screen Rant (opens in new tab)regarding the long journey towards the end: “The process of Star Wars began way back in August of 2015 when I looked at what J.J. [Abrams] and Rian [Johnson] had done and I’m very fortunate that I’m surrounded by some really, really brilliant producers and brilliant creative minds – Kiri Hart and the Lucasfilm story group and my producer [Michelle] Rejwan and Kathy Kennedy and also J.J. and Rian, Larry Kasdan”

It’s safe to say the Star Wars 9 director is over the moon with the people surrounding him – because it’s going to be one helluva job to be the one to drop the mic and walk off the Star Wars stage. Trevorrow, though, has high hopes, “I mean, these are the best minds available and everybody’s engaged in making sure this is the most satisfying and emotionally resonant conclusion that we can possibly deliver.”

Will it top the previous two trilogy endings of an Ewok party and Darth Vader’s infamous ‘nooooo’? It’s gonna be tough to top those masterpieces…
