Stand Up Guys review

In the age of The Expendables , it’s hard for anyone to claim “I’m getting too old for this shit”.

You’d think, though, that septuagenarians Al Pacino and Christopher Walken would still have enough self-respect left in the tank to steer clear of debacles like this.

Fresh out of prison, small-time crim Val (Pacino) indulges his vices, unaware that his old partner Doc (Walken) has orders to kill him before daybreak.

Instead of tension, we get limp Viagra gags and rape/revenge scenarios inexplicably played for laughs.

Most ‘one crazy night’ movies (from After Hours to Superbad ) thrive on a sense of escalation, but Stand Up Guys only seems to lower the stakes as it stumbles tediously on.
