Rupert Friend stars in new trailer for Hitman: Agent 47

A brand new trailer has arrived for the latest big screen adaptation of the Hitman video game franchise. The second cinematic outing based on the popular title, Hitman: Agent 47 stars Rupert Friend as a genetically-modified agent who rallies against the corporation that transformed him into a super soldier.

His efforts aren’t without their heroics – his goal this time is to rescue a woman targeted by the same tyrants who wish to harness her DNA to roll out a new line of Hitmen. As expected with a reboot, Agent 47 ignores the events of the previous film — 2007’s Hitman which starred Timothy Olyphant in the titular role. There’s still plenty of bullets and bodies, however. Check out the new trailer below:

Friend’s previous work on Homeland showcased his ability to play the calm, cool type whose true nature bubbled just below the surface. Here he happily shrugs off that demeanor, embracing the slow-mo action and gun-totin’ antics of being a pumped-up assassin. While the overall story beats don’t exactly stray into new territory, there’s plenty of flashy sequences to maintain a smidgen of interest.

Directed by Aleksander Bach and co-starring Zachary Quinto, Ciaran Hinds, Hannah Ware and Thomas Kretschmann, Hitman: Agent 47 opens in the US on August 21 and the UK on August 28.
