Big Marvel TV news to bring you this morning, with the studio’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb confirming that The Punisher is set to appear in the second series of Daredevil. What’s more, we have an actor attached to the role, with Jon Bernthal apparently on board to bring Frank Castle to life.
In the comics, The Punisher acts as a brutal vigilante hell bent on cleaning up Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary. His introduction should offer an interesting counterpoint to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, who seemed to be stepping back from the brink (in terms of extreme measures) as the first season ended.
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” says Loeb. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
Whether this means Bernthal will also front a Punisher movie remains to be seen, but it’s an exciting piece of casting in any case. Daredevil season 2 is expected to arrive at some point in 2016.
