Some 14 years after her horrific death in a Parisian road tunnel, Hollywood has apparently decided that the time is finally right for a biopic of the colourful life of Princess Diana.
According to Thompson On Hollywood , Jessica Chastain is in talks to star in Caught In Flight as the woman known to Daily Mail readers as the Queen Of Hearts. Downfall ’s Oliver Hirschbiegel is already in place to direct.
The film will apparently focus upon the two-year affair between Diana and heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Kahn, who is oft referred to as the “love of her life”. Don’t expect Clarence House to be offering the royal seal of approval any time soon then.
Pushing the film to buyers at the American Film Market, Hirschbiegel referred to “the compassion and wisdom Dr. Kahn showed to Diana”, whilst those who have seen the script suggest that Diana herself will be portrayed as a damaged and romantically frustrated heroine.
It all sounds a bit cynical to us, although Chastain and Hirschbiegel do have the credentials to come up with something interesting, provided the script isn’t too maudlin. Pre-production is pencilled in for March 2012, giving the tabloid media plenty of time to get their knickers in a twist…
