Is Elden Ring on PS4?

Is Elden Ring on PS4? Given that FromSoftware’s latest Soulsborne adventure, made in collaboration with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, has launched well into the new-generation of consoles, it’s fair to wonder if Elden Ring has been made with last-gen consoles, such as the PS4, in mind. Can the PS4 handle the colourful carnage and swordplay against characteristically ominous monsters? We’ll answer the questions below: Is Elden Ring on PS4, and which other consoles will be the lucky enough to be graced by Elden Ring?

Yes, don’t worry – despite looking pretty robustly “next-gen”, Elden Ring is in fact available on PS4. While there might be the odd graphical or performance compromise between PS4 and PS5, the game still runs reasonably well. We’ve even made an Elden Ring PS4 and PS5 comparison video to show off the differences between the PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5.  As well as the general enhancements, PS5 players will benefit from haptic trigger elements with the DualSense controller too.

It should also be mentioned that those who own the game on PS4 or Xbox One will be able to download a free PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade, so replacing your console in the future (tricky as that may be with limited stock), means you’ll get access to the improved version of the game too. Be aware that there isn’t any cross-console capabilities in Elden Ring, so to benefit from the free upgrade, you’ll need the new-gen console from the same family (PS4 to PS5, for example).

Aside from the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Elden Ring is also playable on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and on PC too. There are also Collector’s Editions available for all these platforms, and the very robust Premium Collector’s Edition, which comes with a giant wearable helmet from the game itself. It seems like the only console that Elden Ring can’t be played on is the Nintendo Switch, which… well, seems fair, considering how monstrously demanding the game can be, even on PC hardware.
