The Alps in question are a Greek quartet, comprising a nurse (Aggeliki Papoulia), a paramedic (Aris Servetalis), a gymnast (Ariane Labed) and her coach (Johnny Vekris), who provide a very unusual service: they impersonate the just-deceased – by wearing their clothes and speaking their words – to assist their relatives’ grieving process.
Given this wilfully fragmented drama is the handiwork of Dogtooth writer/director Giorgos Lanthimos, it’s no surprise that it’s absurdly amusing (in places), rigorously directed, and more interesting on an intellectual level than an emotional one.
