The ironically elusive Zorro Reborn is still alive, could shoot in 2016

It’s been all quiet regarding the prospect of a Zorro reboot over the last few months, but it seems that the project is still alive and kicking, with THR (opens in new tab) reporting that Lantica Media and Sobini Films are teaming up to finance the project, entitled Zorro Reborn.

Last we heard, the latest iteration of the property was set to see the legendary sword-swinger relocated to a post-apocalyptic wasteland, where he would pit himself against various tyrants in an attempt to liberate their downtrodden subjects. The film had looked to be moving forward at Fox, with Gael Garcia Bernal in the title role, only for the project to hit the skids.

“This has been a 15-year journey filled with ups and downs, but it has remained my passion project over the years,” says Sobini’s CEO, Mark Amin. His Lantica counterpart Antonio Gennari also weighed in, saying, “every generation has its own Zorro hero and we’re proud to be able to introduce a new Zorro to this generation.” The search is currently on to find a director, with a view to a start date at some point in 2016.
