Warner Bros might only have just announced Suicide Squad , but the project already has a director, and could be about to add a trio of A-list stars to its cast list.

According to Deadline (opens in new tab) , Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie are in negotiations with the studio, with deals thought to be close for all three actors.

It had previously been reported that Ryan Gosling was also on Warner’s hit list, and with the studio seemingly moving very quickly on this one, don’t be surprised to see him joining the fun sooner rather than later.

Based on one of DC’s less broadly-known properties, the film will follow a group of supervillains who each accept a suicide mission in exchange for an official pardon for their former crimes.

Directed by David Ayer, the film is slated to open in the US on 5 August 2016, with a UK date to be officially confirmed.
