The Sims 3 Seasons – What to expect from Spooky Day

Trick or treat!

One of the reasons why we decided that fall was the best time of year is because it has Halloween, or in the world of the Sims, its known as Spooky Day. Like in real life, your virtual Sims have the ability to dress up in wacky costumes year round, but special activities like trick-or-treating is limited to this special holiday and no one will judge you if you decide to parade around town in a shark suit.

Curious as to what else you can get other than candy when you go door to door? We asked assistant producer Mike Zamora to spill some details about the upcoming expansion.

GamesRadar: What were some of things that you felt really had to be included in Spooky Day for The Sims 3 Seasons expansion?

Mike Zamora: We wanted to make sure that our holidays had a subtle yet distinct feeling to them. In addition to the Spooky Day specific activities such as trick-or-treating and the unique look of the fall season, we felt that it was important that Sims behaved differently during this time of year. Having Sims act more mischievous really adds to the humor and unpredictable nature of the game.

GR: Can you share what kind of costumes we can have our Sims dress up in?

MZ: We made it so that players have the flexibility to go into Create-a-Sim to dress their Sims in costume. Theres a great mixture of new accessories, face paints, shirts, pants, and outfits to allow you to do this. There are full-body outfits such as the hot dog, alien, cow plant, and mermaid. The hockey mask is one of my favorite accessories. If youve seen the Seasons announce trailer you might have noticed the scary looking guy carving out a pumpkin wearing it.

GR: What are some of your favorite activities?

MZ: Having your Sims participate in the fall festival is always fun. I think the team did a really great job with the haunted house and all the spooky effects coming out of its windows. Theres also a chance that youll temporarily be turned into a ghost. Other than that I also enjoy sending my child and teen Sims out trick-or-treating without parental supervision. Lawn ornaments and garbage cans beware!

GR: How does the team brainstorm ideas of what to put into an expansion like Seasons?

MZ: Once we figure out the theme for the pack, we have an awesome team of designers who come up with great ideas that we know will make for a great game. We also have an open forum for anyone on the team to post their ideas and/or suggestions. Ultimately the game is for our fans so we make sure to listen to our players to deliver something that we know they will enjoy. It all culminates into extensive design meetings and discussions where all those great ideas are finally brought to life in the game.
