The long-gestating sequel to Independence Day is finally looming on the horizon, with returning star Vivica A Fox giving an update on what we can expect from her character in round two.
The new film will be set some fifteen years after the events of the original, with Earth readying itself for another assault from outer space. However, some things have changed in the intervening period, starting with Fox’s character having given up her previous career as a stripper…
“I will not be on the pole,” Fox told Blackfilm (opens in new tab). “She was a stripper with a heart of gold, and who had said that she was doing it because the money was good. Now she’s a hospital administrator and she’s running the hospital, and I’m glad that they moved her character forward as a woman.”
And while Will Smith will not be returning, Jessie Usher has been cast as the couple’s now grown-up son. Smith naturally leaves some big shoes to fill, but according to Fox, Usher “has all the wonderful qualities that will remind [audiences] of Will.” No pressure there Jessie…
Directed by Roland Emmerich and co-starring Chris Hemsworth, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum, Independence Day 2 will open in the UK and US on 24 June 2016.
