That new PS Slim (opens in new tab) is looking increasing more legit with talk from the Wall Street Journal (opens in new tab) that a new standard model, along with a high-end version will be arriving next month.
It makes perfect sense considering we all ready know about what it likely the PS4 Neo launch event (opens in new tab) in September. The retail version of the Slim that’s somehow already in the wild suggests the event could see at least that model ready to ship soon after.
No word on whether the Neo is as close to launch (nobody’s selling one on eBay just yet). But, considering the upcoming October launch of PS VR, it seems likely that the new, upgraded PS4 will arrive before then.
The Wall Street Journal says that Sony is hoping to attract both hard-core gamers and more casual players with the two new models. In preparation it’s reported that manufacture of the current model has apparently already been scaled back in Japan to prepare for the new consoles.
