If Star Wars Battlefront (opens in new tab)’s cinematically accurate battlefields are too overwhelming, you could always return to a more civilized age of Star Wars game adaptations. Super Star Wars will hit PSN this week, updating that distinct 16-bit run-and-gun gameplay with the brand new ability to save your game (instead of just leaving the SNES on and hoping your parents don’t unplug it).
On top of save support, the PS4 and PS Vita port also adds leaderboards, Trophies, and expanded display and controller options. If you’ve never played Super Star Wars before, it’s a bit like if Gunstar Heroes loosely followed the plot of A New Hope and threw in a few vehicular segments. Though I suppose if George Lucas’ vision originally included Luke slaughtering dozens of scorpions and scaling a sandcrawler on the way to pick up R2-D2 and C-3PO then it may be the most faithful rendition of all.
Codes for the new-and-improved Super Star Wars come packed in with that odd-looking Star Wars Battlefront PS4 bundle (opens in new tab), along with similarly updated versions of Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter.
