Stephen Kings The Reach to get movie adaptation

Yet another Stephen King adaptation looks to be in the works, with buyers set to find out more about a potential adaptation of The Reach at this year’s Cannes festival.

British production company Park Entertainment will take the story to market for the first time at the Marche du Film, with the film budgeted somewhere between $12 – $14 million.

The story can be found in King’s 1985 collection Skeleton Crew , the title referring to the 1.5 mile stretch of water between Goat Island and the Maine coastline. The tale follows the attempts of a 95-year-old woman to cross said expanse when the water freezes over for the first time in 50 years.

King himself describes The Reach as the story he would most like to be remembered for after his death, and given his legions of fans, there’s likely to be plenty of studio interest in the project throughout the festival.

All we need now is for that long-awaited Dark Tower adaptation to gather some pace and we’ll have all the King we could ask for. In the meantime, we’ll keep our fingers crossed this one is more Shawshank Redemption than Dreamcatcher
