Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World producer heading up film version of Segas Shinobi

I’m about to ask you a question that’s gonna seem weird, but I promise it makes sense. What do you get when you mix video games, sassy lawyers, and singing witches? Why, ninjas of course! Specifically, Sega’s classic ninja franchise, Shinobi, which is being adapted into a live-action movie by producer Marc Platt.

“We love the Shinobi games and believe that the world of ninjas has never been properly explored onscreen. We now have the opportunity to do just that,” Platt said of the partnership, as reported by Deadline (opens in new tab). “With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games and brings this fascinating world to life for moviegoing audiences.”

Here’s hoping Platt and Sega won’t take the production too seriously. I prefer the version of Shinobi where hero Joe Musashi fights The Terminator, Batman, and Spider-Man, personally. Okay, so that’s a lie. Shinobi 3 is actually my favorite; that’s the one where he fights Mecha-Godzilla, a Lovecraftian fungus monster, brains with legs, and rides around on a rocket-powered surfboard. (God this movie’s gonna be great.)

Platt’s previous work includes such films as Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Legally Blonde, and even the Broadway musical, Wicked. See? Told you my question at the beginning of this article would make sense. Feel the power of my writing-jitsu!
