The cheapest PlayStation Plus deals and membership prices in July 2022

The chase for the best PlayStation Plus deals just got more interesting! March brought with it the announcement of a new tier system set across ‘Essentials’ (aka the current PS Plus service, ‘Extra’ (for a collection of PS4 and PS5 games), and ‘Premium’ (for retro titles). The new services will go live on June 13, and you can bet we’ll be sifting through for all the best PS Plus deals when that takes place.

Remember though, a PlayStation Plus subscription deal is an essential purchase for any PS5 or PS4 gamer: not only do you need a PS Plus membership to play most games online, but you also get a couple of free games each month.

As a result, this page will show the best and latest PlayStation Plus deals for all subscription lengths that you can still buy – this is key because it appears Sony is phasing out the memberships cards and codes we all used to be able to buy, and are replacing them with, in essence, the cards with PS Store credit that you can then go on to use to buy your PS Plus sub.

Today’s best 12 month PlayStation Plus deals

The most cost-efficient PlayStation Plus deals are usually found on 12-month subscriptions. These memberships are cheaper than buying several 3-month codes, and you don’t have to worry about it running out for ages. Retailers discount 12-month codes more often, so you can get the biggest savings on the normal prices too.

Once you’ve bought a 12-month PlayStation Plus subscription all you need to do is get the code – either on the card you receive, or the email from the retailer – and enter it in the ‘Redeem Codes’ section found via the menu in the PlayStation Store on your console or on the website. Once you’ve added the 12 digit code, the PlayStation Plus membership will be automatically applied to your account.

Today’s best 3 month PlayStation Plus deals

So you’re wary of a full subscription and just want to try Sony’s online service for a few months? That’s cool. Just grab a 3-month PS Plus subscription and you can decide whether or not to top up later. Don’t forget that if you go for a 3-month and decide that you want the full 12-month sub straight away, you can buy one and it’ll automatically add to your 3 months.

And if you’re only after one month to dip your toe in to either try the service or just get online to play with your friends for a particular month then the 1-month subscription is for you. It’s only a handful of beans so it’s worth a punt if you just want to try it or need a one-hit, short-term fix. (Though we will remind you that the 12- and 3-month subscriptions do work out as better value per month.)

What about the new PS Plus tiers?

Today (March 29th, 2022) Sony announced a revamp of the PS Plus subscription service that will change the way it looks entirely. Rolling together PS Plus with PS Now, the new service will take on a more rounded look and offer more in each of the three new tiers: PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Premium.

An important thing to note straight away is that the Essential level will represent no change for current PS Plus subscribers and that is the equivalent new tier for all of those folks – you will transfer right over to this when it kicks in, and it will remain the same price. After this, the Extra, and Premium tiers offer more and offer new features from streaming older games to getting free trials, and access to other catalogs of games. To give you some immediate insight into the new system before shopping for your next PlayStation Plus deal, check out this hand table that outlines the key differences.

While we are still a couple of months out from the formal change, we have no idea how future PlayStation Plus deals will look – we do just know that your current PS Plus subscription will translate directly into the new Essential tier.

A small note as of the end of April 2022: Sony seems to be stamping out any possibility folks might have of stacking PS Plus subscriptions before the new tiers start. This latest move is by deactivating pre-paid cards of both existing services. Seems a bit harsh to us if you’ve bought the card at a retailer, or have sat on one for a while before using it. So beware of this point, particularly if you find a physical, pre-made PS Plus or PS Now card.
