Wally Pfister’s Transcendence ensemble is beginning to take shape, with Cillian Murphy the latest big name to join the cast for the cinematographer’s directorial debut.
Last week saw Morgan Freeman join leading man Johnny Depp, with Murphy signing on to join a group that also includes Rebecca Hall as the female lead.
Pfister is clearly taking a leaf out of Christopher Nolan’s book by recruiting a smattering of actors he’s worked with many times in the past. Freeman and Murphy were both involved in all three Dark Knight films, while the latter also took a significant role in Inception .
Transcendence will follow Depp’s artificial intelligence scientist whose consciousness is uploaded into a computer of his design before he is killed by a group of anti-technology terrorists. Hall will play the wife and fellow researcher charged with continuing his work
Directed from an original script by Jack Paglen and featuring supporting turns from Kate Mara and Paul Bettany, Transcendence will open in the US on 25 April 2014, with a UK date to be confirmed.
