Star Trek Beyond needs reshoots after adding a cast member

Whether it’s uncertainty about having the director of three Fast & Furious films behind the camera or a debut trailer full of explosions, motorcycles, and Beastie Boys, fans have let their unhappiness regarding the upcoming Star Trek Beyond (opens in new tab) be known. It would seem someone else is also unhappy with the way the film is shaping up, as Deadline (opens in new tab) reports the movie is undergoing reshoots with a brand new cast member.

Shohreh Aghdashloo has joined Beyond as “High Command of the Federation.” Tune into SyFy’s The Expanse and you’ll see her as Chrisjen Avasarala. Pop in Mass Effect 2 or ME3 and have a conversation with Quarian Admiral Shala’Raan vas Tonbay to hear her voice. Or, just trust me when I say she’s good. Note: The female alien pictured above is not Aghdashloo, just in case you were wondering.

Despite the addition of a new character and the hesitation the word “reshoots” can inspire, don’t worry too much. It could be a simple matter of plugging a plot hole or using a character to provide information for the audience. Star Trek Beyond is still slated for a July 22 premiere, so I’m gonna be optimistic and hope that means the reshoots aren’t large enough to warrant a delay.
